Job Description:

As Payroll Specialist with our client, a successful medical device start-up located in Redwood City, you will be joining a fast-growing company and take on the domestic payroll processing.  Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years payroll experience with knowledge of multi-state payroll requirements and laws.  They are seeking an individual who can ensure that all activities related to this job position are accomplished in an accurate and timely manner. Ideal candidate should be detail-oriented and a self-starter.



  • Process payroll for 80+ exempt and non-exempt employees (regular salaries, bonuses, commissions, PTOs, deductions, withholdings, etc.)
  • Manage and streamline workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely through collaboration with management and HR
  • Reconcile and audit payroll prior to transmission against approved documents and validate confirmed reports, including semi-monthly reconciliations of FSA/401k deductions
  • Understand proper taxation and calculation of employer paid benefits and garnishments
  • Process accurate and timely quarter and year-end reporting and compliance (941s, W-2, W-2c, etc.)
  • Research, analyze and resolve payroll-related issues or questions
  • Assist with other payroll tasks and ad-hoc projects as needed
  • Process domestic (semi-monthly) payroll and audit of all payroll records
  • Assist in annual financial statement audit on payroll if needed
  • Process payroll and benefit deductions for employees
  • Participate in payroll process improvement and implementation of payroll service
  • Assist in annual financial statement audit on payroll if needed
  • Assist with expense reports, credit card and accounts payable
  • 40% time doing accounts payable



  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in payroll
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax filings
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of employee and company information
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel (how to use formulas)
  • Self-starter with ability to troubleshoot and identify solutions independently
  • Experience with ADP (WFN platform) a must
  • ADP reporting experience
  • AP experience
